There is a romance between Lira and Elian. There were some interesting side characters, but they were pretty surface level. He came across slightly less developed than Lira. He has a lot of wanderlust and doesn’t want to be a king. Because of her cruelty, it can be hard to connect with her, at least for me. Her mother is also the Sea Queen who also turns her into a human. In the case of Elian and Lira, what’s at stake is larger than just the relationship between the two of them. The main character, Lira, is the daughter of the Sea Queen. To Kill a Kingdom is a retelling of a Little Mermaid story. There’s two main characters-Lira and Elian. To Kill a Kingdom is a story in which characters from two different worlds come together and learn to put aside their differences. An excellent idea wasted for enemies to lovers YA romance.
